Bulbs ovoid to globose, 2-3 cm in diam., pale yellow to white, fleshy. Stem erect to ascending, 20-60(-80) cm long, glabrous.
Leaves sessile, linear to broadly linear, sometimes lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, 4-7 mm wide, apex acute, somewhat broader at base, entire, glabrous on both surfaces; midrib slightly impressed on upper surface, elevated beneath.
Flowers 1-several, terminal or in leaf axils of upper branches, large, showy, 4-6 cm in diam.; bracts linear, 5-6 mm long, apex acute; pedicel 2.5-4 cm long, thickened, blunt, callous; perianth red or reddish yellow, tepals in 2 series; outer ones linear-spatulate, 4.5-5 cm long, 5-6 mm wide, apex obtuse, more or less crested, base attenuate, glabrous on both surfaces; inner tepals 7-8 mm wide; filaments 3-5 cm long; anthers linear, 7-10 mm long, red; ovary clavate- cylindrical, 1.5-2.5 cm long, 3-3.5 mm wide, apex truncate, base attenuate, glabrous; style columnar, 10-12 mm long; stigma capitate, slightly 3-lobed.
